Summit Services | Photogrammetry

Summit's Photogrammetry department is responsible for the production of topographic mapping and orthophotography using aerial photography. Summit is proud to have been the first private firm in Nevada to utilize only softcopy/digital workstations for production photogrammetry in early 2000. Our Leica Geosystems Orima aerotriangulation software allows us to take digitized imagery and coordinated ground targets to create fully three-dimensional visualizations of areas of virtually unlimited size for mapping purposes.

Our BAE Socetset softcopy workstations allow us to perform a wide variety of photogrammetric tasks, such as digital terrain modeling for civil design and volume determination, feature mapping, change detection analysis, and orthophoto mosaicing. We are able to simultaneously produce black and white, natural color, and false color infrared orthophotography when a digital aerial camera such as the Zeiss DMC or UltraCam X is selected for the project. Using softcopy stereo compilation, edge matching to previous mapping, change detection or adding mapping later is a very simple and quick process with the benefit of a cost savings to the client. Stereo visualization is achieved using lightweight polarized glasses and allows multiple personnel to view three-dimensional terrain simultaneously. There have been many cases where Summit engineers and our clients have used three-dimensional viewing to better understand the existing conditions of their projects. Softcopy photogrammetry allows virtually instantaneous switching between projects so we can immediately show an engineer the project. Archived projects can be restored in a manner of minutes as well.

Summit is proud to have been instrumental in bringing Reno into the digital photogrammetry era with the first fully digital city coverage in the late 1990s. In 1999, Summit was approached by the Regional Base Mapping Committee consisting of Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks to assemble an organization sufficient to provide regional mapping in a timely manner. The project was successfully completed within the established timeframe and Summit has been a part of the regional mapping process since then.

The combination of engineering and in-house photogrammetry ensures that Summit Engineering can always have mapping products of the highest accuracy along with the flexibility for changing designs. Constant coordination with surveying and engineering provide a comprehensive product of high quality.

If we can add value to your next project, please contact Summit Engineering at (775) 747-8550 in Reno or (775) 738-8058 in Elko. We welcome the opportunity to work with you and your team.
