Summit’s Surveying Department was instrumental in the Yerington Land Conveyance in collaboration with Nevada Copper Inc., City of Yerington, and the Bureau of Land Management. Summit Engineering worked closely with the BLM to ultimately record an eight-page Record of Survey Map (File #542177) encompassing approximately 9,000 acres. Upon acceptance of this State Authority Survey, it was utilized to create a Federal Authority Supplemental Plat for this Mineral Segregation which ultimately let the successful conveyance of the lands. An Annexation Map (File #542176) was also generated which annexed approximately 13,000 acres into the City of Yerington which is anticipated to be utilized for economic growth. A testament of Summit’s services was received from the BLM Chief Cadastral Surveyor for Nevada as follows “Your firm accomplished a high-quality survey in a very short period of time and produced one of the most complete records of survey I have ever seen.”
Summit Engineering was originally hired to perform soil testing during the initial development, however, our role quickly expanded to include 1704 special inspection services. Being ‘on the ground’ early in the project, providing testing and inspection services for the construction of the hoist house, shaft collar, headframe, ~1,900’ of shaft concrete liner, and other facilities such as infiltration basins. Summit provided earthwork testing, rebar inspection, concrete testing and inspection, shop steel inspections, and high-strength steel bolting inspection. In addition, Summit performed testing and inspection on the ventilation shaft, crusher, mill, and process plant, as well as soil testing of the off-site switchyard and rail loading sites. Summit worked with the client and contractor to establish testing procedures and frequencies to meet clients’ needs assuring quality control while maintaining the mine’s timeframe for construction. Summit personnel worked tirelessly day and night to achieve this end. Summit Engineering continues to provide construction support and materials testing and inspection for ongoing underground construction and mine development.
Summit also provided geotechnical soil investigation and recommendations for the original Private Land Underground Mine mill site and integrated mine. Summit was responsible for the supervision and analysis of thirteen boreholes to one-hundred feet in depth. Summit also provided Wenner Soils resistivity testing. Laboratory analysis was mainly done in-house by Summit technicians at our accredited soil laboratory. Based on those results and extensive soil engineering experience, Summit was able to provide client recommendations for settlement, structural loading, bearing capacity, and all other necessary soil properties needed to design a project of this magnitude correctly and safely.
