Summit Engineering Corporation is looking to fill a full-time position for a Lab Manager & Staff Engineer in our Elko office. Requires being proficient in mapping with AutoCAD for design, reviewing and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, etc. Strong business development skills and ability to handle tight deadlines for a busy multi-disciplinary company needed. Tasks also include upkeep on all AASHTO requirements, managing lab duties, design work, reviewing reports, etc. Employees who have passed the FE and Autodesk & AutoCAD knowledge are preferred, but not required. Room for advancement. JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Conduct daily time entry.
  • Write technical reports with precision and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Read and comprehend technical writing including code and other specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Follow all safety and administrative regulations.
  • Complete Vehicle Inspection Reports when using company vehicles.
  • Comply with SEC’s Employee Handbook, Safety Manual, and other company policies and procedures.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and pursue company growth through business development.
  • Facilitate the betterment of SEC through suggestions and actions.
  • Inspect project sites, i.e., Drainage certifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of the site development plan.
  • Assist in the preparation of site grading and drainage designs.
  • Assist in the design of storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
  • Utilize maps, drawings, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data for design.
  • Prepare quantity estimates.
  • Read and review project plans and specifications.
  • Draft detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Confer with the supervisor to determine project details.
  • Perform drainage analysis and prepare hydrology reports.
  • Perform sewer capacity analysis and prepare sewer reports.
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
  • Prepare submittals to acquire permits.
  • Inspect project site and evaluate contractor work to ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codes.
  • Evaluate property and code to determine the best usage and placement of civil improvements.
  • Plan field surveys to analyze details of project site conditions.
  • Report and document for design purposes the results of field surveys.
  • Learn computer programs and maintain proficiency in design tools and software.
  • Collect or prepare soils, asphalt, and concrete samples for analysis per ASTM and ACI standards.
  • Compile, log, or record testing data for review and further analysis.
  • Assemble, operate, or maintain field or laboratory testing, measuring, or mechanical equipment.
  • Participate in geological exploratory drilling and/or excavating to assess subsurface conditions.
  • Provide field description of geological samples prior to AASHTO laboratory analysis.
  • Test and analyze both field and laboratory samples to determine their content and characteristics, using laboratory apparatus or testing equipment per AASHTO parameters.
  • Maintain proper and accurate record-keeping and documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory or technical equipment.
  • Collaborate on projects with specialized firms or interdepartmentally.
  • Maintain technical certifications for industry standards, including but not limited to 1704 Certifications, ACI, NAQTC, MSHA, OSHA, HAZMAT as well as lab certifications: AASHTO and CCRL.
  • Maintain your professional engineering licenses in all states for which you are licensed.
  • Record research or operational data.
  • Research geological features or processes.
  • Compile laboratory data for billing.
  • Compile and write proposals for prospective and existing clients Supervise and review the work of laboratory technicians.
  • Review and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, or construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Train, direct, or supervise other inspectors.
  • Work from 8:00 am Monday through Friday.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel overnight at short notice.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EAC/ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree or a Board approved equivalent, Drug Testing, Valid Driver’s license & DMV Driver Report

  • Pre-employment and random quarterly drug testing are mandatory.
  • Employees must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an EAC/ABET accredited school or Board approved equivalent, passed the FE, and has a stamp for the State of Nevada.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Visual acuity with or without corrective lenses that allow for maintenance of driver’s license. May include lifting up to 50 pounds.

Identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

PREFERRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS

PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERING LICENSE – STATE OF NEVADA

  • Certifications including but not limited to 1704 Certifications, ACI, NAQTC, MSHA, OSHA, HAZMAT as well as lab certifications: AASHTO and CCRL (all a plus but not required)

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Autodesk Familiarity

  • Employees who have passed the FE are preferred
  • Employees with knowledge of Autodesk software are preferred.
